My Modelling Journey
These pages showcase pictures and information about the model cars, trucks, vans and motorbikes I've built over the years.
I think most modellers go through phases: building models for a while, taking a break that can last years, then eventually finding their way back to the hobby. The models in these galleries come from an earlier phase, before I learned more advanced techniques such as opening doors and boots, adding spark plug leads, handbrake cables, fuel lines, radiator overflow pipes and other finer details.
The Projects page features my latest modelling phase. I don't get as much time as I'd like to work on them, so progress can be slow, but I'm always learning and trying to make each new project more advanced than the last.
A Bit About Me
I'm a New Zealand bloke in my 50s who started building models as a kid, as many of us did. I enjoy building all sorts, from drag cars and race cars to street machines, customs and just about anything in between. The one thing you won't find me building is an everyday family car!
I'm a panel beater (bodyman) by trade, and I've always admired the work of legendary customisers such as George Barris and Tom Daniel. New Zealand is a small place, with an even smaller market for that sort of work, so scale modelling gives me a chance to put some of that knowledge and creativity to use.
That said, you don't need to be a panel beater to build something wild or create your own custom designs. **Your only real limitation is your imagination.** There are plenty of books, photos and other resources out there to spark ideas and help you learn new techniques.
A Few Words of Advice
Be yourself and live your own life, not someone else's. Don't give in to peer pressure, don't give up on your dreams or goals, and remember that mistakes are part of learning.
Every day is a learning day. Never think you know it all, because there's always something new to discover.
Here's hoping we can all find happiness in what we have and what we do.
